Dust Jacket progress

I didn't appreciate just how much fun it was going to be to write with someone else; or just how challenging, rewarding, frustrating, enlightening and exhausting!

Chambers (that's his real name by the way) writes so quickly that my pace looks positively slothful ... the pace of the story is definitely more Chambers doing and I'm actually happy to relinquish that part of the job and concentrate on the underlying lyricism/poetry. Chambers and I do not write about sex in the same way; if you've read any of Zac Tremble Investigates, then you'll know that Chambers' style is more light-hearted, but no less tender in many respects, especially when he describes the relationship between Zac and Paul. The relationship between Peter and Derek in Dust Jacket is Chambers' creation; I'm left with all the angst and guilt!

The other thing about writing with someone else is the fact that you can never predict the outcome or just how things are going to work; I thought we would write Dust Jacket almost entirely as a dialogue between the two main characters; this hasn't been the case; it's got more action in it than I originally anticipated; and that is no bad thing.

We're currently at seven chapters and 20,000 words; ostensibly the first part of the story; we're expecting to make a lot of progress over the forthcoming weekend, depending on other projects; Chambers has to delivery a new Zac case file in May and I would like to delivery the fifth instalment of The Map Stick.

Of course; there is also the prospect of a second collaboration; a detective story/even a series, set in either the South of France or a rural backwater; I actually favoured Paris but Chambers lives in Saint Tropez and the summer is coming up ...

My esteemed writing colleague and very dear friend, Hollie Bowrie, has just published the first part of her latest story; 'The Runner - Part 1 Nicky's Story'.

If you've read 'The Secret' and 'When the Bough Breaks - Spring' then you'll know what a treat you have in store.

Progress on my own projects will come to a halt today whilst I read this whilst stuffing my face full of chocolate!

What could possibly be better than an Easter Egg?

A book; better still, a free book.

To celebrate Easter, the following books are free for the entire holiday weekend:

Matilda's Crown

Different Circles

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Love, Bytes and Hurts

Do It Yourself

Crossed Wires

You could download one or all and have an Easter Egg too!

Progess on 'Dust Jacket'

I didn't appreciate just how much fun it was going to be to write Dust Jacket alongside Chambers; so much fun ... and very challenging but already incredibly rewarding.

We have approximately ten thousand words down so far and neither of us is sure how big this story is going to be. Trouble is, if we get an idea then one of us will take it, develop it and give it back and that just spirals. We agreed at the start of our collaboration that one of us needed to retain overall editorial control; and that would be me on this project.

Someone commented that the man in the picture was too beautiful to be a serial killer. I suspect this story, like it's cover, is going to challenge some conventional thinking
.

We're debating if and how to share the prologue before the novel is published; I'm all for bunging the snippet on our websites. Chambers is erring on the side of caution; simply because, we've already changed one major thing which occurred in the first chapter; and will probably change other things too. I guess this means you may have to be patient (I know; it sucks).

I hope you're enjoying the Easter weekend even if you are having to paint the fence or host a BBQ for a lot of people you don't really know or like.

Happy reading!

You'll notice that I have added a link to the website of Hollie Bowrie from my menu.

I can't recommend Hollie's 'When the Bough Breaks - Spring' highly enough.

The link to Hollie's website will be permanent and I'll blog her new releases as and when they hit the shelf; treat yourself and download a copy of 'Bough'; it's beautifully crafted and the dialogue is an absolute a joy to read.

Thank you

'A Life Lived' was previously published as part of 'Another Trio of Liberty Treasury Gay Romances'.

What happens when you reach that point in life when the same routines aren't fulfilling anymore and you are looking for a change and a bit of excitement? Charlie, a boyish forty-something Brit, heads to France to explore a new life for himself. Studying French and working in a cafe bar owned by Julian and Karl is just the ticket. New loves and ex-boyfriends provide a bit of hilarity whilst a friendship with the elderly ex-showgirl, Madam Giselle, shows him that it is all just a life lived

Many of my stories are available in paperback but certainly not all of them.

If you would like a particular story published as a paperback then let me know. It takes about a day to prepare and about three days to get the book on the shelf; I'll happily do it if anyone really wants a story on paper.

Just contact me via this blog post or the contact me using the contact form.

Thanks

'Spring Collection' is the first of 2014's seasonal collections. This collection contains the stories:
The Sculptor & His Muse
The Transit of Mars, and
Evolution & Cynicism

None of these stories has appeared in a collection before; each of the stories is available separately.

The theme is love between men which spans the generation gap.

Happy reading and look out for the next seasonal collection, due to appear around the end of June.

Collaboration with Chambers begins

When I had the idea for a serial killer thriller there was no plan to collaborate with anyone to bring the story to the shelf. Then I started reading Zac Tremble Investigates.

I had a detective in mind, Peter Nation and a basic plot. Chambers sees things through the eyes of the killer and I see things through the eyes of the detective; it's a bit weird but a great way to get the two principal voices written with a real edge.

I'm waiting (impatiently) for Chambers to finish his current Zac case file before we can get motoring on Dust Jacket. The picture? This is Dust Jacket, our serial killer.
